FAIRFIELD - A Fairfield woman is mourning the loss of her dog after it was killed in an apparent coyote attack.

Ramona Elmer says Bella, her King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, was attacked last Thursday in the backyard of her Grandview Avenue home. Animal control officers say the dog was likely targeted by a coyote.

Experts say owners should keep their pets on a leash during low-daylight hours and always keep them within sight. They also say anyone who sees a coyote can try to scare it by making as much noise as possible.
