FAIRFIELD - Police say a Fairfield woman was scammed out of thousands of dollars by a caller pretending to be her grandson.
Frieda Lopatin, 88, says she wired $3,000 from her bank account to two men posing as her grandson and his lawyer. She says she sent the money because she thought her grandson was injured and in jail.
Officials are warning residents to be wary of the "Grandma Scam," which they say happens often around the holidays.
Police are still investigating and say no arrests have been made at this time.
