FAIRFIELD - The Fairfield Woods Branch Library will be closed this week after mold was found there.

Town leaders say the discovery was made in a precautionary inspection following the replacement of a leaky roof earlier this year.

First Selectman Mike Tetreau says cleanup crews began work Monday.

Officials say the mold is confined to parts of the basement that are off limits and that the public was never in danger.

Tetreau says further tests will be done Thursday in hope of reopening the library by next Saturday.

Fees will be waived until the branch reopens for anyone who can't get to the main branch to return a book due this week.
