STAMFORD - The bodies of 30 service members, including Stamford native Brian Bill, were brought back to the United States today from Afghanistan after they were killed when their helicopter was shot down by Taliban insurgents on Saturday.

In Stamford, family and friends remembered the chief petty officer, who graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in 1997 and played hockey and soccer. Outside his former high school, a memorial has been set up by Bill's classmates. Former coworkers at the flower shop where Bill used to work described him a great man and a true hero, who left an impression on everybody when he worked there in high school.

Bill's family says a funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecilia's Church in Stamford and he will then be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Dates have not yet been finalized for the services.
