STAMFORD - Stamford residents are mourning the death of a woman who was struck and killed by a Metro-North train.

The accident happened at the Cos Cob station in Greenwich on Friday.

MTA authorities say the engineer of the approaching train saw 28-year-old Tamar Louis sitting on the platform and blasted his horn. Authorities believe the horn startled Louis, who dropped her purse.

They say Louis then jumped onto the tracks to get the purse and was hit and instantly killed.

The medical examiner's office, however, did not declare Louis' death an accident. According to the Stamford Advocate, the medical examiner said she committed suicide. Louis' friends did not recall her showing any troubling signs.

Louis' neighbors described her as a respectful, friendly young woman who kept to herself. They say the family is having a hard time accepting her death.

Funeral arrangements are being made for Louis in White Plains, New York.
