GREENWICH - Police say a 15-year-old student at Greenwich High School committed suicide last night, the same day school started for the year.

Greenwich police say Bart Palosz died from a self-inflicted shotgun wound. According to authorities, he used a family-owned gun that had been stored in a gun locker at his house.

Palosz' sister tells News 12 Connecticut that he was a victim of bullying. She says school officials should have done more to deal with the problem that had been plaguing Palosz.

School officials say they take student safety very seriously and that any student believed by a staff member to be suicidal is immediately referred to outside support. Officials also say grief counselors will be made available for anyone who needs them.

Social media posts attributed to Palosz indicate he had been talking about suicide for months.
