NORWALK - Construction is under way at a Norwalk farm nearly a year after massive snow accumulation on the roof of an indoor horseback-riding ring caused the building to collapse.

Since last January, riders at Silvermine Farm have been forced to brave the elements at an outdoor ring.

Owner Ken Markosky says at first, he had to battle the insurance company. Then, he had months of paperwork to go over with the town before beginning the process of rebuilding the nearly 13,000 square-foot indoor ring.

"I'm probably down a third of my normal business this time of year just for the people who don't want to come ride in the elements," he says.

But by mid-January of 2012, Markosky expects all that to change once he finishes erecting the brand-new barn where he will be able to offer riding lessons.
