HARTFORD - The co-chair of the State Legislature's Transportation Committee has introduced a bill that would require seat belts on new school buses in Connecticut.

The move comes just two days after a 16-year-old was killed and more than a dozen students were injured when a school bus hit a car and plummeted down a 20-foot embankment.

Two local representatives on the committee, Chris Caruso, of Bridgeport, and Tony Hwang, of Fairfield, say they are in favor of anything that protects children but want to make sure seat belts are effective before passing any laws.
