HAMDEN - A federal judge in Bridgeport ruled yesterday that Quinnipiac University violated Title IX when it eliminated the women's volleyball program in favor of a cheerleading program last year.

Quinnipiac has 60 days to restructure its athletic program to comply with Title IX.

The school says although it will fight the judge's decision, it plans to add women's rugby as a varsity sport in the fall.
