Federal investigators are now looking into dozens of mail thefts in Wilton.The suspect is believed to have taken the checks out of a drop box

WILTON - Federal investigators are now looking into dozens of mail thefts in Wilton.

The suspect is believed to have taken the checks out of a drop box outside the post office.

In some cases, the payee's name had been erased and a new one inserted. In other cases, a new check was made up.

Police say they've received more than 30 complaints for checks totaling about $80,000.
