WESTPORT - Beaches in southwestern Connecticut will have fewer lifeguards for the rest of the summer as high school and college kids head back to school.

Officials are urging beachgoers to pay extra attention to their children since people are now swimming at their own risk.

The Westport Parks and Recreation Department says only two of the five lifeguard stands at Compo Beach will be manned on weekdays, with two more manned on the weekends.

There will be no lifeguards on duty after Labor Day, beach officials said.
