BRIDGEPORT - Emergency crews worked to battle a house fire early Sunday morning in Bridgeport.

Fire officials say the flames broke out at around 6 a.m. at 520 Wayne St.

The homeowner was able to escape and no one else was inside the home at the time.

An insurance adjuster tells News 12 Connecticut that the home is a "total loss," because of the extensive property damage and the fact that the entire structure was saturated with water.

Firefighters say the cold temperatures made it difficult for crews to battle the flames, as water would quickly freeze in and around the property.
