BRIDGEPORT - A fire ripped through a four-story apartment building in Bridgeport Saturday afternoon, displacing dozens of people.

Officials say no one was hurt in the fire, which sparked after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Stratford Avenue and Fifth Street.

Hours later, firefighters were still working to get the fire under control. They say the first floor was a store and the top three were made up of apartments.

Investigators say they are not yet sure of what caused the fire, or exactly how many people were living in the building. They say the fire spread quickly because the building is old. Part of the structure has collapsed.

Officials say they had to turn off power to other homes in the area and that Stratford Avenue and Fifth Street were closed for part of the day. They have since re-opened.
