Firefighters battle blaze at abandoned arms factory

BRIDGEPORT - Firefighters were called in to battle a blaze at the old Remington Arms plant in Bridgeport shortly after 10:30 this morning, officials said.

Firefighters surrounded the building from as many sides as possible, but said they could only spray it from the outside because going in was too risky.

Some neighbors reported hearing ammo exploding inside the plant, located at the corner of Barnum Avenue and Helen Street.

Fire officials say that as soon as the fire is contained, they will send in an arson investigation unit. They say they consider the fire to be suspicious.
