Flags to return to Westport bridge

WESTPORT - Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff says the flags that had adorned the Saugatuck River Bridge will be back beginning tomorrow.

About 100 flags have lined the bridge every summer since the Sept. 11 attacks.

The town did not put the flags up this year, saying they would be reserved for national holidays because of budget concerns. They say the flags cost $2,500 a year to maintain and repair and that it wasn't fair to put that burden on taxpayers.

Joseloff says a private donor has come forward to provide the money needed to return the flags. He says they will go up tomorrow and remain through the summer.
