WILTON - As Memorial Day approaches, the antiwar group Veterans for Peace complains it is being denied the chance to march in Wilton?s parade.
The decision was apparently made due to some confusion surrounding the mandatory application submitted by the group.
First Selectman Bill Brennan of Wilton says members of the town?s Memorial Day Committee were unfamiliar with Veterans for Peace and were hesitant to approve the application because it was filed under a different name.
Former Norwalk Mayor Bill Collins, a Veterans for Peace board member, says the town could be using the maneuver to keep the antiwar group out of the parade.
Brennan says he invited the co-chair of Veterans for Peace to meet with the head of the parade committee Thursday morning, but the invitation was declined.
The group was invited to apply again next year, Brennan says.
