A former Bridgeport sheriff died suddenly Saturday night.

Friends and family say they have started a fund to help pay for Goodman's funeral services.

BRIDGEPORT - A former Bridgeport sheriff died suddenly Saturday night.

Friends of 41-year-old David Goodman tell News 12 Connecticut that he became sick Saturday night and later died at the hospital. They say he had a reputation for assisting people who were facing difficult circumstances.

Goodman was also a member of the Republican Town Committee in the 131st District. 

Friends and family say they have started a fund to help pay for Goodman's funeral services.
