DARIEN - Mourning friends of the two men killed in a hit-and-run on I-95 in Darien this weekend are calling for justice in the case.
Investigators say Felipe Chagas, of Bethel, and Lucas Silva, of Stamford, were killed Saturday morning after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while trying to change a tire on the shoulder. The crash happened about a half mile up on the exit 11 overpass.
Friends say Silva was part of a group traveling from Fairfield Saturday morning when the car ahead got a flat tire. They say Silva offered to get out of the car because he felt the situation was dangerous.
Police say the driver, Candice Blanks, of Stamford, was drunk when she hit the men with her SUV. Police say Blanks sent Chagas into the air and dragged Silva 170 feet.
Authorities say she was released from jail on $250,000 bond and is set to face a judge next month.
