NEW YORK - The funeral for Cardinal Edward Egan is being held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan.

Egan retired in 2009 after nine years of leading the archdiocese. He died on March 5 after a heart attack at age 82.

His successor, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, is the celebrant for the afternoon funeral that follows a public viewing.

Participants listed on the Mass program include Metropolitan Opera soloists Renee Fleming and Matthew Polenzani. Fleming sang at Egan's 2000 installation.
