Funeral held in Bethel for hit-and-run victim

BETHEL - Family and friends gathered today for the funeral of a 19-year-old who was hit and killed while changing a tire in Darien this past weekend.

Police say Filipe Chagas and Lucas Silva, of Greenwich, were struck and killed by a hit-and-run drunken driver while changing a flat tire on I-95.

Bethel High School officials say they were able to raise $7,000 in just three days to help the Chagas family pay for the funeral.

Family members of Lucas Silva say his body is on its way back to Brazil, where he will be buried.

Police say the driver of the car, Candice Blanks, is free on $250,000 bond pending her return to court next month.
