STAMFORD - A gas station in Stamford was forced to close Saturday after a car backed into one of the gas pumps, setting it on fire.

According to fire officials, the driver ran into the pump around 1 a.m. at the Global station on High Ridge Road after filling the car up with gas.

The station's fire suppression system was able to extinguish most of the flames before firefighters arrived. No one was hurt in the incident and it is unclear when the gas station will reopen.
