BRIDGEPORT - A Fairfield man was in court today after police say he led them on a high-speed chase and then assaulted an officer.
Police say George Zachos Jr. ran a red light on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield, then tried to escape when authorities attempted to pull him over. They say he sped along Kings Highway and made his way into Bridgeport, where he drove the wrong way down Fairfield Avenue.
The chase ended when Zachos crashed his truck. Police say he then resisted arrest.

Authorities say Zachos was Tasered and then taken to the hospital. He was charged today with assault on a police officer, first-degree reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit and possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana. He's currently being held on $100,000 bail.
