NORWALK - Golfers teed off in Norwalk today for the 7th annual Spc. Wilfredo Perez Jr. Golf Classic.
The golf tournament was established to honor Perez, who was killed in Iraq in 2003. Funds raised by the event go toward scholarships, local veterans groups and the construction of a monument remembering Connecticut soldiers killed in the war on terror.
?Every year we're so surprised, pleasantly surprised, that people just come from all corners of the state and they just want to be a part of it,? Perez?s stepmother Vicky says.
Perez, of Norwalk, was 24 when he was killed.
