BRIDGEPORT - Gov. Dannel Malloy was in Bridgeport Monday to see the renovations made to a United Illuminating substation.
Officials say the work was done to prevent flooding and electrical outages during storms like Hurricane Sandy.
Officials say flooding is the biggest threat to the substation during a storm. They've put in barriers to keep out floodwaters and pumps to remove water.
Gov. Malloy called the improvements a step in the right direction to be better prepared for future storms.
Malloy says United Illuminating made similar improvements to three other substations in the Bridgeport area and three in the New Haven area.
