HARTFORD - Pink slips could soon be in the mail for over 1,000 state workers.

Gov. Dannel Malloy says the major round of state employee layoffs needed to balance the budget is about two weeks away.

Malloy says the exact number depends on the number of worker retirement applications filed by tomorrow.

State officials say more than $900 million needs to be cut from the budget for the fiscal year starting July 1.
