A slew of businesses have been affected by the recent government shutdown, especially early child care programs that have branches in southwestern Connecticut.

Officials with the Head Start initiative announced that they were forced to close all facilities nationwide. In Bridgeport, one of these schools enrolls 1,200 students, but was unable to open after its federal grant expired at midnight.
