BRIDGEPORT - A southwestern Connecticut grandmother was arraigned this morning for allegedly leaving her 3-year-old granddaughter in a car while she went into a store.

Roseann Sinatra went before a judge on a misdemeanor charge of leaving a child under 12 unsupervised in a motor vehicle. Sinatra spoke exclusively with News 12 Connecticut following her court appearance.

Sinatra told News 12 Connecticut that her granddaughter was asleep when she needed to stop at a Ferry Boulevard pool store. Sinatra claims that the car was locked and running with the air conditioner on. She also maintains that she was never more than 10 feet from the car. Sinatra refutes the police’s report of the incident.

Stratford police say they received a call that a child was left unattended. According to police, the 3-year-old was inside a car that had its windows up, was unlocked and had the engine off. Police say the car was still blowing air.

“I am not saying what I did was right, but I never left my eyes off of her for a moment,” says Sinatra. “She is the love of my life."

Sinatra is applying for accelerated rehabilitation, a program for people who have never been convicted of a crime. She will go before a judge in September to see if she is accepted into the program.
