GREENWICH - Greenwich residents are calling a police officer a hero for his quick response to a four-car accident that left an SUV on its roof and a female passenger trapped inside yesterday morning.

Officer Carl Johnson says that he was just in the right place at the right time when he rescued the woman from the SUV. Driving down I-95 on the way to Greenwich Police Headquarters, Johnson saw the SUV fly into the air, hit the ground, roll and then skid to a stop on its roof.

Johnson pulled over and radioed the crash in, and then ran to the scene to deliver first aid to the trapped passenger. Officials say the woman was hurt, but not critically. Johnson says that he expected the accident to be fatal by the way the car was skidding down the highway on its roof.

According to state police, the driver was able to get out of the car by himself and wasn't seriously injured. He has been ticketed for driving without a license.
