GREENWICH - Classmates of a Greenwich High School student killed in a boating accident last summer honored her memory Friday with a bake sale at the school.

Emily Fedorko was killed by the propeller of a boat while she was being towed in a raft by a boat operated by a friend.

Lawmakers have proposed Emily’s Law, which would prohibit anyone under the age of 16 from operating a boat towing another person. Currently, Connecticut law states a 13-year-old with a safe boating certificate can do so.
The bill also requires boaters to take a complete course in boat towing safety, something officials believe will benefit boaters.

The bill is now awaiting action by the state Senate.

Friday would have been Fedorko’s 17th birthday.
