Greenwich jeweler arming staff with Tasers

GREENWICH - A Greenwich jewelry store owner says two of his employees are now carrying Tasers in the wake of two recent robberies.

Betteridge Jewelers owner Terry Betteridge says he believes the new safety measure would have stopped the most-recent robbers who came to his Greenwich Avenue store in November.

Betteridge continues to lobby for the police department to put a permanent patrol officer on the street corner. He says he is also in the process of hiring a full-time security officer for his store.

According to Betteridge, he has been told by police that there is a person of interest in the November robbery, but a Greenwich police spokesperson says he is not aware of any pending arrests.
