GREENWICH - A member of the Greenwich Marine Unit made a ‘Mission Impossible’ type rescue Friday night in the Long Island Sound.
Officer Frank Di Pietro says the marine unit was responding to a call of an unmanned and out-of-control cigarette boat in the middle of the sound. He says that the two people who were on the boat had fallen out while the boat kept on treading water.
Di Pietro says that he managed to jump from his vessel on to the potentially dangerous boat and bring it to a stop. An eyewitness to the rescue says that Di Pietro’s actions were “incredible.”
Officials said that the two people who had been aboard the boat were rescued by passers-by. They were not injured.
