GREENWICH - Greenwich officials went ahead today with a controversial plan to remove some trees.

Town officials say removing the trees allows more space and sunlight on the Greenwich Commons property on Greenwich Avenue.

Dozens of residents signed a petition to block the removal, saying it is a drastic move to cut down healthy trees.
