Greenwich offers sandbags to prevent flooding

GREENWICH - Officials in Greenwich handed out sandbags Monday to residents concerned that heavy rains could lead to severe flooding.

Homeowners along the Byram River say they're also buying sump pumps as a precaution. Many of them had to be rescued from their homes by boat in a similar storm two years ago.

The Greenwich Fire Department is urging residents to keep a close watch on the amount of water in their basements, especially because their furnace may need to be shut off to avoid a fire.
