GREENWICH - Greenwich police are encouraging residents to turn in unwanted weapons this weekend.

Officers are accepting handguns, rifles, ammunition, pellet guns and other weapons such as knives. Police say people should only bring in unloaded firearms.

The department says it can send an officer to the home of anyone who is unsure how to unload his or her firearm.

The event will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at police headquarters, located at 11 Bruce Place.
