Authorities say they responded quickly to the call but found the house empty. (4/18/14)

GREENWICH - Greenwich police are trying to find out who reported what they now believe was a fake hostage situation.

First responders investigated in the area of Round Hill and Creamer Hill roads. Police say the report was that someone was possibly in a house holding somebody hostage.

Officials say they were at the scene moments after the call and blocked off the area, but when they went inside the home in question, nobody was there.

Police say while they were treating it as a serious incident, it appears to be a case of "swatting," in which someone places a hoax call to get the attention of law enforcement.

Police are determining where the call came from. Whoever placed the call could face serious charges.
