GREENWICH - Greenwich police are searching for the man who robbed a bank and prompted them to suspend train service through the area.

The robbery happened Wednesday at the People's United Bank on Greenwich Avenue at around 5 p.m. Police stopped Metro-North trains to make sure the suspect did not get on board after it was reported that he allegedly fled the bank in the direction of the station.

Authorities say he walked in, told a teller in Spanish that he was robbing the bank and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

They say the suspect never showed a gun, but suggested he had one.

Meanwhile, residents and business owners say they're keeping a close eye on the streets until the suspect is behind bars.
