GREENWICH - A Greenwich teenager who was left wheelchair-bound after a February car crash returned home Saturday with hopes of walking again.

Cori Lantz says it has been a long journey of recovery since her tragic accident, when a car slammed into the sport utility vehicle she was traveling in outside of a Cos Cob gas station.

Doctors were forced to take skin from the 17-year-old Lantz?s leg to repair her hands and a nerve from her leg to fix a pulled nerve in her collarbone.

Lantz has undergone months of therapy and remains optimistic. ?The doctor said I'll definitely walk again, it'll just take a lot of time,? she says.

Her latest stint of therapy has been with Journey Forward, a program aimed at getting wheelchair-bound people on their feet. ?They'll move your leg and then you'll think of moving your leg so the response comes from your brain instead of your leg,? Lantz says.

Lantz's family says their insurance doesn't cover her therapy sessions. They have turned to grants and donations, which have allowed for the treatment to continue. The family also has to consider home modifications to accommodate her.

Lantz, who wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, offers advice to those who refuse to use them. ?I always hated them, but it's stupid. It's not worth it,? she says. ?You always think, This could never happen to me, but it does.?
