NORWALK - Talk of the Guardian Angels citizens arrest group coming to Norwalk is causing a bit of controversy.
Councilman Mike Geake has invited one of the heads of the group, Curtis Sliwa, to speak to the Common Council?s Health, Welfare and Public Safety Committee. Geake, who is also the chairman of that committee, feels having the Guardian Angels present in Norwalk would help clean up the streets and rid the city of crime.
Geake?s invitation has been met with criticism from Norwalk Mayor Richard Moccia and Norwalk Police Chief Harry Rilling. Moccia feels the group?s presence is not necessary in the city. He also feels having the Guardian Angels around the city would send the wrong message to residents.
Meanwhile, Geake says Sliwa is welcome to start a chapter of the group in Norwalk.
