NEW HAVEN - A former Fairfield man pleaded guilty today to traveling to Haiti to sexually abuse boys at a school he ran there.
As part of a plea deal, Douglas Perlitz admitting to abusing eight boys at the Project Pierre Toussaint School in Cap-Haitien.
Prosecutors say Perlitz would threaten to withhold food, shelter and other items from the boys if they refused his advances.
Perlitz founded the school in 1997 when he was a Fairfield resident. The organization was funded through the Connecticut-based charity The Haiti Fund, which was supported by Connecticut residents and a Roman Catholic charity.
He faces up to 30 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000 when he is sentenced in December.
