NORWALK - The father of a man who was critically wounded during a home invasion is raising money to host a gun buyback event.
Larry Johnson has spent the past nine years working with the Shoot Hoops Not Guns program at Brien McMahon High School, which is aimed at keeping kids on the court and off the streets.
Johnson says that since his son, 31-year-old Larry Johnson Jr., was recently wounded in a home invasion, he plans on using funds raised by the basketball tournament to hold a gun buyback event.
“It just broke my heart because I'm here trying to help in Norwalk, Conn. and my son gets shot in Hartford, Conn.,” says Johnson.
Johnson says the tournament will be held in March.
Police have arrested Norman Jennings, 31, of Hartford, in connection with the shooting of Johnson Jr.
