MIDDLETOWN - The deadly power plant explosion that took place in Middletown this past February was the focus of two federal hearings today.
A federal safety board and congressional subcommittee traveled to Middletown, where a February 7 explosion at the Kleen Energy Systems plant killed six people and injured 20.
Both groups collected testimony from industry experts, emergency responders and regulators about the explosion.
The widow of a pipefitter who was renovating the factory at the time told federal agency workers today that they should ban using explosive gas to clean pipes. Instead, she suggests promoting using air or nitrogen, which have been shown to be safer.
Police are still investigating whether anyone is criminally liable.
