Federal officials have handed out more than $16 million in fines in connection with the February explosion at a Middletown power plant that killed six

MIDDLETOWN - Federal officials have handed out more than $16 million in fines in connection with the February explosion at a Middletown power plant that killed six people.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined contractors working on the Kleen Energy Systems plant $16.6 million for more than 370 alleged workplace safety violations.

The companies have 15 days to pay or contest the fines.
