BRIDGEPORT - Homeless shelters across southwestern Connecticut say they're expecting a high turnout this weekend because of the forecasted extreme cold temperatures.

The Bridgeport Rescue Mission normally has 25 beds. But when it gets this cold, they stack chairs in two of their classrooms and lay out more beds on the floor. They'll even let people stay in the dining room overnight if they run out of space.

Still, the mission says it sometimes can't accommodate everyone looking for a warm place to stay.

The shelter also says it's desperately looking for donations of food, clothing or cash. Here's how you can help.
