BRIDGEPORT - The Bridgeport Democratic Town Committee officially endorsed incumbent Mayor Bill Finch in this year's mayoral race Tuesday night.
Finch's top competitor, former five-term Mayor Joe Ganim, faced an uphill battle for the coveted endorsement. He spent seven years in federal prison after a corruption conviction.
Many residents said they were willing to look past that history, cheering Ganim just as loudly as Finch at the meeting in Testo's Restaurant.
The 90-person committee voted to endorse Finch 49-41.
Experts say that historically, candidates who win the committee's approval often go on to win the primary election.
