STAMFORD - Residents in Stamford have an alternative to handing out candy that is making Halloween safer for kids with allergies.

The Teal Pumpkin Project is a new initiative for residents this year. By placing a teal pumpkin outside of your house, it lets people know that you're providing allergy-free, non-food treats for kids on Halloween.

Experts say 6 million children suffer from food allergies

The Teal Pumpkin Project is becoming so popular that tens of thousands of people are signing up.
