STRATFORD - Voters in Stratford have elected a new representative for the 121st District in time for Wednesday's legislative session.

Officials say Democrat Joe Gresko beat Republican Susan Barksdale by a few hundred votes in a special election Tuesday.

Gresko will succeed state Rep. Terry Backer, who died in December after a five-year battle with brain cancer.

Gresko will serve the remainder of a two-year term that ends next January.
