STAMFORD - A Stamford man is dead following a plane crash in New York.

Investigators say 70-year-old John Campbell’s plane crashed outside Albany, N.Y. while he was volunteering for Angel Flight, which provides free transportation to people who are sick and in need of treatment.

Authorities say he was flying Frank Amerosa, who had been a cancer patient, and his wife Evelyn, from Boston.

Frank Amerosa's body has not yet been recovered.

Authorities told News 12 Connecticut that they are investigating the cause of the crash.

"Shock and sadness do not begin to express our feelings about this tragedy,” Campbell’s family released in a written statement. “John loved to fly and truly believed in the mission of Angel Flight."
