RIDGEFIELD - Police have released the name of the man who was shot and killed by an officer in Ridgefield on Friday.
John Valluzzo, 75, allegedly refused to put down his gun after police responded to his house on a domestic dispute call. Police say Valluzzo pointed the gun at the officers and was shot by one of them. He later died at Danbury Hospital.
Samuel Johnson, who says he knew Valluzzo well, tells News 12 that he had seen him on Friday and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Johnson says that Valluzzo was a Korean War veteran, and Memorial Day was very special to him. Johnson adds that Valluzzo founded the Military Museum of Southern New England, and that the future of the museum is unknown at the moment.
The museum remained open today to honor Valluzzo.
The name of the officer who shot Valluzzo has not been released.
