Joseph Russo, of Fairfield, accused of threatening schoolchildren

FAIRFIELD - Fairfield police have arrested a man they say intended to harm schoolchildren.

Police say they arrested Joseph Russo, 44, this morning.

They say he had told them a month earlier that he had thoughts of taking children hostage and terrorizing them. They say Russo appeared distraught and said he was afraid he would follow through with his thoughts.

Police say he was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center for evaluation at that time and has been there for the past month.

He was arrested immediately upon being released from the hospital.

Police say they have been in contact with the school system and Russo posed direct threat to the public.
