NORWALK - An man who was allegedly armed and threatened to kill Norwalk police officers Thursday is out of jail this evening after posting bond.

Police say William Loeffel, 24, was upset because his girlfriend broke up with him. They say he shot one bullet and then threatened to use a high-powered rifle on anyone who approached the house on Hillside Avenue.

The incident led to a lockdown at a nearby day care center.

Shortly after his arraignment, William Loeffel posted bond and headed straight for psychiatric help, per a judge's orders. The judge says the suspect will be re-evaluated in three weeks.

Attorneys say Loeffel was a merchant Marine and had spent time in Africa, but was recently laid off.To watch extended footage from Norwalk, click on News 12 Extra on Optimum TV channel 612.
